Best Motor Oils – Complete List





Here is the complete list of best motor oils ranked by PSI strength. The higher the PSI strength the better the oil is at preventing wear. Oils within 10% of each other can be considered approximately equivalent. All of these oils were tested at 230 degrees Fahrenheit. Multiple tests were conducted. All oil bottles were shaken before samples were taken.

The list will be broken down into five distinct categories based on the PSI strength. The best motor oils with over 105,000 PSI have incredible protection. Oils between 90,000 and 105,000 have outstanding protection. Oils between 75,000 and 90,000 PSI have good protection. Oils between 60,000 and 75,000 have modest protection. And motor oils below 60,000 PSI possess undesirable protection. All oils below are synthetic unless specified. All oils are suitable for street use unless otherwise specified.

High Mileage oils are formulated for older engines with over 75,000 miles on them. High Mileage oils include “Seal Swell” chemicals to help reduce oil leakage in those older engines.

These motor oil test results are from 540 Rat’s Blog. His data has been validated and backed up by four different independent industry sources. He started testing oil in June of 2013.
